What is the difference between sandblasted and brushed (No. 4) stainless steel?

Update Time:2026/10/29

Brushed No. 4 and hairline carry a directional grain and a semi-reflective sheen, so grain direction has to be controlled across every panel. Sandblasting produces a uniform matte texture with no direction, which hides fingerprints and reflects far less glare.

Brushed is for detail

Handrails, trim, door surrounds, lift interiors and interiors where the grain is a deliberate design line. It shows handling marks more readily and needs grain alignment at every joint.

Sandblasted is for area

Large facade fields, low-glare soffits and high-touch surfaces. Because there is no direction, panel-to-panel alignment stops being an acceptance criterion.

The installation consequence

With brushed panels, grain direction becomes a fabrication and installation instruction. With sandblasted panels it does not, which removes one of the most common site disputes.
