What is the difference between 2B and BA finish?
Both are smooth mill finishes produced at the mill, not decorative processes. 2B is bright annealed and then given a light final cold-roll pass, which leaves a semi-reflective grey surface. BA is bright annealed only, in a controlled atmosphere, so it stays brighter and closer to a mirror.
What you see
2B reads as a soft grey haze with a slight directional sheen. BA reads brighter and cleaner, with more distinct reflections, which is why it is chosen for visible consumer-facing surfaces.
What decides it
Whether the surface will be seen, and whether a decorative finish will be applied on top. If the panel is going to be brushed or coated, the mill finish underneath is a processing input, not a visual choice.
Both accept PVD
Either mill finish can be the substrate for coating, but the substrate roughness still shows through the colour. Specify the base finish and the colour together.
