What is the most common stainless steel finish?

Update Time:2026/10/29

2B is the default mill finish for cold-rolled sheet and the surface most flat products ship in. For visible architectural and decorative work, No. 4 hairline is the most widely specified finish, because it carries grain consistently and hides handling marks better than a mirror.

2B

Rolled, semi-reflective grey, and the cost base for every other finish. It is the right choice for surfaces that will be painted, laminated, formed and concealed, or further processed.

No. 4 and hairline

The architectural default for wall panels, column covers, lift surrounds and trim. Directional grain means grain direction becomes a drawing requirement, not a production detail.

When neither is right

Mirror for interiors where reflection is the design intent, sandblast for large low-glare facade areas, and textured or coloured finishes where the surface itself is the statement.
