How flat can a large facade panel be?
Sheet facade panels are held to 3 mm flatness. Embossed, laser-perforated and physically formed surfaces carry a 10 mm allowance instead, because the forming process introduces relief that leveling cannot remove. The two figures are not interchangeable, and quoting a textured panel against the sheet figure is how disputes start.
Why flatness decides the look
On a mirror or hairline elevation, flatness controls whether reflections read as one continuous plane or as a grid of separate panels. A 3 mm deviation is invisible on a matte surface and obvious on an 8K mirror.
What a large panel needs
Above roughly 1500 mm width, a single sheet can deflect under its own weight. Honeycomb composite panels solve that by bonding a stainless face to an aluminium core, which is why they hold flatness at 1500 × 3000 mm.
| Surface | Flatness |
|---|---|
| Mirror, hairline, 2B, BA | ≤3 mm |
| Water ripple, hammered, 3D embossed | ≤10 mm |
| Laser-perforated | ≤10 mm |
| Honeycomb composite | ≤3 mm |
