What thickness is used for stainless steel facade panels?

Update Time:2026/10/30

Standard stainless steel facade panels run 0.3-3.0 mm thick, with a tolerance of ±0.01 mm held across the sheet. Thickness is set by the structural requirement and the panel module, not by appearance. Honeycomb composite panels are a separate build-up: a 0.8-1.5 mm stainless face bonded to an aluminium core, total thickness 10-25 mm.

Why 0.3 mm at the thin end

Interior linings, ceiling panels and trim can run at the thin end because the panel carries no structural load. Facade panels on an exposed elevation usually sit higher, where wind load and flatness over a 1500 mm span start to matter.

What to put on the purchase order

Grade, thickness with tolerance, panel size, flatness class and finish. Without the tolerance written down, a 0.3 mm call-out can arrive anywhere inside the mill range and the joint rhythm changes on site.

Flatness is a separate specification from thickness: 3 mm for sheet panels, 10 mm where the surface is embossed, laser-perforated or formed.
